Concert

Jenny Oaks Baker
This week Robert and I were able to attend a concert in which Jenny Oaks Baker performed. This is an amazing woman. She plays the violin with a confidence and command that I haven't seen before. She was a lot of fun to watch. Kurt Bestor was the main attraction at the concert and he was fabulous. Kurt is one amazing composer. It was fun to hear his new stuff and see his band 'do their thing'! We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. (the company we had made it even funner, I might add) I have to give a shout out to Tom and Gina. Thanks for the tickets, it was fun!!

Today we are enjoying the snow-from indoors. I went to Winco this morning for some groceries and oh, my was the roads horrid. I burst into tears twice (dang these hormones!) trying to get home. People were running off the road a couple of times and I was almost hit. But I'm home safely now and that's where we're staying! Tonight we were going to go look at Christmas lights for family home evening. But I think it will be game night instead.

getting it all done!

We put up our Christmas Tree this weekend. Now this tree is not my favorite tree, but it is what we have. Also, I am not sure (with 6 kids in the house) if it would be worth replacing it! anyway, the kids were very excited to put things together. They were very careful about helping, They listened very well. I was pleased (overall). But then came the tears after it was all over because Alexa likes to squeeze the glass balls in her hands. NOT a good thing. She doesn't cry because her hands hurt or that they're broken. She's upset that she is told that it's naughty and that she can't hold anymore! Actually when you say, "that's naughty, Alexa!" She says- "but I'm happy Momma!" So I think that she doesn't quite get the meaning of it. She thinks it's because your grumpy or something. It's like when you wash her hair and she doesn't like it, she will yell -I'm Bored, I'm bored. That actually means I don't like it! Anyway, I digress, The tree is up and I am relieved that it is one more thing finished at our house. Now I can start the run down for when I get to take it down. Yes, I realize I sound like scrouge, but It is much easier when it is all put away.

The tree actually looks better at night (and in person. it's not the best photo)or maybe I just like it with my eyes closed, I'm not sure. It is one of those things that I don't have what I really want so I just don't really care about it at all. But I have been reading some of you all's blogs so maybe I will work on the loving everything in the moment and all that! (or maybe next time!)

Ian has strep throat. (I know I feel sorry for the guy! he is such a great sickie. Makes me feel even more bad for him) But while I was at the Dr.'s office I noticed their beautiful tree. And they had massive candy canes tied together with ribbon, in three's. I loved it. So while I was waiting for his prescription to fill I had me a little crafty moment. I went and picked up 2 kinds of candy cane (so I could have slightly differant stripe patterns) Went to the fabric department and picked up some red ribbon. Total cost was like$3! I was feeling super cool at this point! At home I took 3 canes and bundled them together with rubberbands and put ribbon over it! I'll probably save the ribbon for next year, and of course I am thinking of some really cool renditions to this but for right now, this is it!

Sorry about my snarkiness-It's one of those days!

Twilight

I finally decided to post my review-

I know many of you saw the movie and many of you have lots of ideas about it. But I like it! I read the books for entertainment purposes only! I loved the whole unrealistic-ness of it. I liked how it was cheesey and romantic, that's the whole point of the books. So when I went to watch the movie I expected it to be cheesey, and romantic. It was lower budget as well. Like when Edward climbs the trees, it is a little weird, but on the other end, that part isn't in the book at all. But that is to be expected. The movie is never as good as the book and the movie will cut things out to move the story line along in 1-2 hours.
I also liked the casting. I think it was overall a good job. A few of the characters were kind of funny, but come on, they were weird in the book too! (Like Jasper and Rosalie) I thought Mike was dead on and I liked Bella. It was fun to see high school antics protrayed so well. We were all chuckling over the mannerisms of teenagers. The actors did WONDERFUL at doing nervous teenager and what not! Over all I would watch it again. I completely enjoyed it. I had a blast with my girlfriends. We enjoyed it like no 30 something women should!

Don't take it to seriously! It's a Fun movie to watch. If you've read the book it's fun to see the movie. I'm not so sure someone who hasn't read the book would enjoy this little bit of pop culture!

12 yrs old

So Brynlee turned 12 this week. She had asked me earlier in the week if we could go on her birthday to get her ears peirced. Quite frankly I was dubious that it would actually happen. I picked her up from band and took Brynlee and her friend Breanna to Walmart to get it done. She was really excited. I think having someone there also put a little peer pressure on her to finish it. She was a little nervous but she DID follow through. IT was crazy though because I asked the woman if she would have them done at the same time so it would just be over with. She said sure, but the 2nd guy was really old and shakey and I was quite nervous that he would slip or something. IT did turn out fine. But I can't say that it didn't cross my mind to back out. But I was too embarressed at that point! Brynlee told me later that he was scaring her as well!! here is her 'before' pictures.

The after picture didn't turn out! I'm sorry I just looked at it so I'll have to up date later with a new one -hope you are too disappointed!

When we got home from the store, we saw that our house had been attacked! She was so excited! I have to admit I started to cry myself. (dang these post-partum hormones!) I just wanted her to have a good experience in YW-she has been so nervous. And here it was -right before my eyes, I was excited and as you can tell, so was she!

here are what some of the notes said! I was laughing my head off at some of these. Oh, how I miss Young Women's -they're hilarious!

I had wanted to make her birthday cake special. I wanted it to be soft and feminine and all that. What I learned is that I can't execute what I wanted! What I learned is that my hands get tired fast and my patience is short. I had a wonderful Idea! it was supposed to be great, but I didn't have the right tools or the time to do it. WHat I wanted was for my very talented Mother in law to show up, (or better yet, live near by) and do the cake for me!

these were some of the inspirations That I saw, and hoped for!

Dashing Dots Tiered Cake

Brightly Hued Slant Tiered Cake

Now I understand that I couldn't do something like these. After all they are real pieces of work and they are made with fondant. I wasn't going to use fondant, but I thought I could get something really CUTE! but this is what Brynlee had to make do with!

I should have just bought the stupid thing.
